babe in the city, part four

Or; Getting All Cultured and Stuff with EFC

Last week, The Lady packed me up and rolled me onto the subway again.

"OMG Lady! Did you see that woman? Tights are NOT pants, am I right?"

After getting turned around a bit, then trying to make it up to street level and finally emerging from a random office building, we headed for the Art Gallery of Ontario for some cultural education with Uncle Eric.

We didn't take this picture, but I'm 99% sure it still looks like this.

It is SO NICE inside! Holy crap. Security, however, is tight. They frown upon taking photographs of any kind because, ironically, they are the enemy of art! But we sneaked a few anyway. Behold!

We saw some amazing photography highlighting industrialism in Canada. Here I am under a grain elevator or something, but I am truly captivated by the art student in front of me.

"Ha! You are so funny Eric! Do go ON!"

Then we went into this other room with lots of fancy paintings in it. Something about France and impressionism versus the other thing that was happening at the time and cramming a lot of paintings on walls.

"Lady, quick! That scowly blazer dude is coming back!"

By the way, if you know the name of the artist and painting above me (the boy and the frog) please let The Lady know. She loved it!

We saw a lot of really awesome religious art (including some rad wands courtesy of Ollivander’s) and Eric told us a lot about the representation of Jesus during the Renaissance. We went all through the Thomson Collection, including all the model ships which are *awesome*, and saw a Rubens worth about $100 million. ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. Holy crap.

It’s this one:

The Massacre of the Innocents - Peter Paul Rubens

By then I was getting pretty tired, so I hitched a ride on the kangaroo pouch express while the grown ups went through the contemporary exhibits.

"I don't get art. You don't either Lady."

Then we went our for sushi at the weirdest restaurant ever. As it turns out, I don’t like agedashi. I KNOW! First avocado, now this. Looks like my sushi eating days were over before they began.

"Me, Mr. Bee and Eric = true love!"

"So. Orange."

Then just a quick stop at Yonge and Dundas to see the “sights”:

"Yeah, I guess that gigantic David Beckham poster is cool? What am I looking at?"

And then we *just* missed the train. Dammit!

"VVVVVRROOOOOOOM! Wait. Does this mean we have to live in the station now?"

Stay tuned for the next episode of Babe in the City when we will be going…somewhere!
